Connecticut Practice Lead/Licensed environmental PROFESSIONAL

O’Reilly, Talbot & Okun (OTO) is seeking a Connecticut Practice Lead/Licensed Environmental Professional (LEP) for this hybrid position based out of our Springfield, MA office. Candidate will join our environmental team in OTO’s mission of providing responsive, economical, and quality-driven environmental, geotechnical, and industrial hygiene consulting services. Our Team

OTO is a firm small enough to offer personal service and large enough to tackle big jobs. Our firm employs approximately 20 technical staff, with 10 on the Environmental Team. As a team of engineering and scientific professionals we strive to maintain positive, collaborative work relationships by understanding project needs and adapting our practices accordingly. These solid, goal-oriented efforts allow us to continue doing what we do best: use our technical knowledge to reach successful outcomes.

Members of OTO hold a variety of license and certifications, including but not limited to: Massachusetts Licensed Site Professionals (LSPs), Connecticut Licensed Environmental Professionals (LEPs), registered Professional Engineers (PEs), Certified Indoor Environmental Consultant (CIEC), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), Massachusetts Third-Party Landfill Inspector, Massachusetts Soil Evaluator, and Radon Measurement Professionals. We also maintain Massachusetts and Connecticut licenses for asbestos inspectors, project monitors, management planners, and designers.

Your Role

This position allows for a hybrid work schedule with the expectation that you will be available to your team during business hours (M-F 8A-5P) and will communicate your schedule with your team. We expect a Connecticut Practice Lead/Licensed Environmental Professional candidate to adopt our mission and reflect our values while:

• Collaborating with senior LEP and Connecticut team members to transition existing Connecticut RBCR Sites to become the LEP-of-record for these Sites;
• Exhibiting an entrepreneurial attitude with an interest in maintaining and expanding an existing practice and loyal client base;
• Directing all aspects of project management, including client interaction, technical execution, staff management, report completion, and financials;
• Developing new business opportunities with the support of our business development team;
• Mentoring and providing development of junior staff; and
• Supporting the office in technical excellence and collaborating with other managers to provide vision and direction for OTO’s future through participation in the Operations Committee.

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications/experience:

• Bachelor of Science degree in Geology/Hydrogeology/Environmental Science/Engineering or other relevant science field (Master of Science degree a plus);
• Licensed and in good standing with the Connecticut State Board of Examiners of Environmental Professionals (LEP Board);
• 10-15+ years applicable experience in hazardous waste site investigation, remediation, and regulatory submittals to Connecticut DEEP;
• Phase I/II environmental assessments for real estate development (ASTM-CEP a plus);
• Business development and client management experience;
• Commitment to professional development and staying current with federal, state, and local environmental regulations;
• Ability to speak and write professionally;
• Demonstrated experience managing multiple projects, budgeting, and cost control;
• Demonstrated experience supervising technical and administrative staff;
• Involvement in professional organizations;
• Strong leadership, team building, and interpersonal skills; and
• Existing client connections.

Additional technical experience a plus:

• Additional professional licensure (e.g., Massachusetts Licensed Site Professional, Professional Engineer, Certified Industrial Hygienist, Professional Geologist);
• Experience with characterization of soils and groundwater at RCRA, CERCLA, and Brownfield sites, as well as design, development, and implementation of remediation strategies;
• Experience with Asbestos projects;
• Experience with soil management at large-scale construction projects;
• Experience developing, managing, and/or performing due diligence, regulatory compliance, and environmental management system audits; and

• Environmental compliance experience (spill response plans, water/waste permitting, compliance audits).

Salary is dependent upon experience and qualifications. A well-qualified candidate may expect an annual salary between $125,000 and $145,000, in addition to a negotiated signing bonus.
